Calvin Coolidge and the 1924 map
President Coolidge won a full term in his own right, benefiting from prosperity and Harding's scandals having tarnished the Democrats more than the Republicans. The Democratic convention was notoriously deadlocked for 103 ballots before choosing compromise candidate John W. Davis. Progressive Senator Robert La Follette of Wisconsin ran on the Progressive Party ticket and won 16.6% of the popular vote and 13 electoral votes (Wisconsin), making it a notable third-party performance.
