What happened in Nevada, 1924

In 1924, Nevada awarded its 3 electoral votes to Davis of the Democratic party. Nationally the result broke the other way — Calvin Coolidge (Republican) won the presidency, leaving Nevada among the states he did not carry.

The result flipped Nevada away from the Republican it had supported in 1920. The region divided — Arizona joined Nevada for the Democratic ticket, while California, Oregon, Idaho, and Utah did not. Across the 41 presidential elections Nevada has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Republican party (21 times). The vote fell within the Roaring Twenties — Republican dominance to the Great Depression.

In the national count, Calvin Coolidge took 382 of the 531 electoral votes, against John W. Davis's 136. Calvin Coolidge led the national popular vote with 54.04% of the ballots cast.
