The 1924 contest saw Iowa line up behind Coolidge, delivering 13 electoral votes to the Republican ticket. Iowa ended up on the winning side — Calvin Coolidge captured the White House that year.

It marked the 3rd consecutive election in which Iowa backed the Republican party, a streak reaching back to 1916. The region divided — Minnesota, Illinois, Nebraska, and South Dakota joined Iowa for the Republican ticket, while Wisconsin and Missouri did not. Across the 47 presidential elections Iowa has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Republican party (32 times). The vote fell within the Roaring Twenties — Republican dominance to the Great Depression.

In the national count, Calvin Coolidge took 382 of the 531 electoral votes, against John W. Davis's 136. Calvin Coolidge led the national popular vote with 54.04% of the ballots cast.
