1924
Arizona in 1924
The 1924 contest saw Arizona line up behind Davis, delivering 3 electoral votes to the Democratic ticket. The presidency went elsewhere: Calvin Coolidge (Republican) won nationally, while Arizona had backed a different ticket.
Arizona stayed in the Democratic column for the 4th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1912. The region divided — Nevada joined Arizona for the Democratic ticket, while California, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico did not. Over its 29 recorded presidential cycles, Arizona has backed the Republican party more than any other — 18 times in all. The vote fell within the Roaring Twenties — Republican dominance to the Great Depression.
Nationally, Calvin Coolidge finished with 382 of the 531 electoral votes to John W. Davis's 136. Calvin Coolidge led the national popular vote with 54.04% of the ballots cast.
