Massachusetts in 1924

The 1924 contest saw Massachusetts line up behind Coolidge, delivering 18 electoral votes to the Republican ticket. Massachusetts ended up on the winning side — Calvin Coolidge captured the White House that year.

It marked the 3rd consecutive election in which Massachusetts backed the Republican party, a streak reaching back to 1916. Massachusetts did not move alone — neighboring Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire broke the same way in 1924. Across the 60 presidential elections Massachusetts has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Democratic party (23 times). The vote fell within the Roaring Twenties — Republican dominance to the Great Depression.

In the national count, Calvin Coolidge took 382 of the 531 electoral votes, against John W. Davis's 136. Calvin Coolidge led the national popular vote with 54.04% of the ballots cast.
