2020
Reading the 2020 result in Illinois
Illinois backed Biden (Democratic) in the 2020 presidential election, casting 20 electoral votes for the ticket. That placed Illinois with the eventual winner: Joe Biden went on to take the presidency, and Illinois was part of his column.
Illinois stayed in the Democratic column for the 8th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1992. The region divided — Wisconsin joined Illinois for the Democratic ticket, while Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky, and Indiana did not. Over its 53 recorded presidential cycles, Illinois has backed the Democratic party more than any other — 26 times in all. The vote fell within the Modern Polarization — Close elections in a divided country.
Nationally, Joe Biden finished with 306 of the 538 electoral votes to Donald Trump's 232. Joe Biden led the national popular vote with 51.31% of the ballots cast.
