The 2024 contest saw Illinois line up behind Harris, delivering 19 electoral votes to the Democratic ticket. The presidency went elsewhere: Donald Trump (Republican) won nationally, while Illinois had backed a different ticket.

Illinois stayed in the Democratic column for the 9th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1992. It stood apart from its neighbors: Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky, and Indiana went the other way that year. Over its 53 recorded presidential cycles, Illinois has backed the Democratic party more than any other — 26 times in all.
