Missouri in 1952

The 1952 contest saw Missouri line up behind Eisenhower, delivering 13 electoral votes to the Republican ticket. That placed Missouri with the eventual winner: Dwight D. Eisenhower went on to take the presidency, and Missouri was part of his column.

The result flipped Missouri away from the Democratic ticket it had backed in each of the previous 5 cycles. The region divided — Iowa, Illinois, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska joined Missouri for the Republican ticket, while Kentucky and Arkansas did not. Over its 52 recorded presidential cycles, Missouri has backed the Democratic party more than any other — 33 times in all. The vote fell within the New Deal Coalition — FDR, civil rights, and the long Democratic majority.

Nationally, Dwight D. Eisenhower finished with 442 of the 531 electoral votes to Adlai Stevenson II's 89. Dwight D. Eisenhower led the national popular vote with 55.18% of the ballots cast.
