The 1948 contest saw Oklahoma line up behind Truman, delivering 10 electoral votes to the Democratic ticket. Oklahoma ended up on the winning side — Harry S. Truman captured the White House that year.

It marked the 5th consecutive election in which Oklahoma backed the Democratic party, a streak reaching back to 1932. The region divided — Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado joined Oklahoma for the Democratic ticket, while Kansas did not. Across the 30 presidential elections Oklahoma has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Republican party (20 times). The vote fell within the New Deal Coalition — FDR, civil rights, and the long Democratic majority.

In the national count, Harry S. Truman took 303 of the 531 electoral votes, against Thomas E. Dewey's 189. Harry S. Truman led the national popular vote with 49.55% of the ballots cast.
