Missouri stayed in the Democratic column for the 11th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1872. Missouri did not move alone — neighboring Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska broke the same way in 1912. Over its 52 recorded presidential cycles, Missouri has backed the Democratic party more than any other — 33 times in all. The vote fell within the Progressive Era — Trust-busting, suffrage, and World War I.

Nationally, Woodrow Wilson finished with 435 of the 531 electoral votes to Theodore Roosevelt's 88. Woodrow Wilson led the national popular vote with 41.84% of the ballots cast.
