In 1904, Ohio awarded its 23 electoral votes to Roosevelt of the Republican party. That placed Ohio with the eventual winner: Theodore Roosevelt went on to take the presidency, and Ohio was part of his column.

Ohio stayed in the Republican column for the 13th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1856. Over its 56 recorded presidential cycles, Ohio has backed the Republican party more than any other — 30 times in all. The vote fell within the Progressive Era — Trust-busting, suffrage, and World War I.

Nationally, Theodore Roosevelt finished with 336 of the 476 electoral votes to Alton B. Parker's 140. Theodore Roosevelt led the national popular vote with 56.42% of the ballots cast.
