Ohio in 1900
The 1900 contest saw Ohio line up behind McKinley, delivering 23 electoral votes to the Republican ticket. That placed Ohio with the eventual winner: William McKinley went on to take the presidency, and Ohio was part of his column.
Ohio stayed in the Republican column for the 12th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1856. The region divided — Michigan, Indiana, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania joined Ohio for the Republican ticket, while Kentucky did not. Over its 56 recorded presidential cycles, Ohio has backed the Republican party more than any other — 30 times in all. The vote fell within the Progressive Era — Trust-busting, suffrage, and World War I.
Nationally, William McKinley finished with 292 of the 447 electoral votes to William Jennings Bryan's 155. William McKinley led the national popular vote with 51.64% of the ballots cast.
