In 1892, Ohio awarded its 23 electoral votes to Harrison of the Republican party. The presidency went elsewhere: Grover Cleveland (Democratic) won nationally, while Ohio had backed a different ticket.

Ohio stayed in the Republican column for the 10th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1856. The region divided — Michigan and Pennsylvania joined Ohio for the Republican ticket, while Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia did not.
