Pennsylvania in 2020

The 2020 contest saw Pennsylvania line up behind Biden, delivering 20 electoral votes to the Democratic ticket. That placed Pennsylvania with the eventual winner: Joe Biden went on to take the presidency, and Pennsylvania was part of his column.

The result flipped Pennsylvania away from the Republican it had supported in 2016. The region divided — Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York joined Pennsylvania for the Democratic ticket, while Ohio and West Virginia did not. Over its 60 recorded presidential cycles, Pennsylvania has backed the Republican party more than any other — 26 times in all. The vote fell within the Modern Polarization — Close elections in a divided country.

Nationally, Joe Biden finished with 306 of the 538 electoral votes to Donald Trump's 232. Joe Biden led the national popular vote with 51.31% of the ballots cast.
