The 2012 contest saw Connecticut line up behind Obama, delivering 7 electoral votes to the Democratic ticket. Connecticut ended up on the winning side — Barack Obama captured the White House that year.

It marked the 6th consecutive election in which Connecticut backed the Democratic party, a streak reaching back to 1992. Connecticut did not move alone — neighboring New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island broke the same way in 2012. Across the 60 presidential elections Connecticut has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Democratic party (24 times). In the national count, Barack Obama took 332 of the 538 electoral votes, against Mitt Romney's 206. Barack Obama led the national popular vote with 51.06% of the ballots cast.
