What happened in Missouri, 2004
In 2004, Missouri awarded its 11 electoral votes to Bush of the Republican party. Missouri ended up on the winning side — George W. Bush captured the White House that year.
It marked the 2nd consecutive election in which Missouri backed the Republican party, a streak reaching back to 2000. The vote fell within the Modern Polarization — Close elections in a divided country.
In the national count, George W. Bush took 286 of the 538 electoral votes, against John Kerry's 251. George W. Bush led the national popular vote with 50.73% of the ballots cast.
