Wyoming in 1964

The 1964 contest saw Wyoming line up behind Johnson, delivering 3 electoral votes to the Democratic ticket. Wyoming ended up on the winning side — Lyndon B. Johnson captured the White House that year.

It marked the 2nd consecutive election in which Wyoming backed the Democratic party, a streak reaching back to 1960. Wyoming did not move alone — neighboring Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, and Idaho broke the same way in 1964. Across the 34 presidential elections Wyoming has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Republican party (24 times). The vote fell within the New Deal Coalition — FDR, civil rights, and the long Democratic majority.

In the national count, Lyndon B. Johnson took 486 of the 538 electoral votes, against Barry Goldwater's 52. Lyndon B. Johnson led the national popular vote with 61.05% of the ballots cast.
