The 1948 contest saw Florida line up behind Truman, delivering 8 electoral votes to the Democratic ticket. Florida ended up on the winning side — Harry S. Truman captured the White House that year.

It marked the 5th consecutive election in which Florida backed the Democratic party, a streak reaching back to 1932. The region divided — Georgia joined Florida for the Democratic ticket, while Alabama did not. Across the 45 presidential elections Florida has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Democratic party (28 times). The vote fell within the New Deal Coalition — FDR, civil rights, and the long Democratic majority.

In the national count, Harry S. Truman took 303 of the 531 electoral votes, against Thomas E. Dewey's 189. Harry S. Truman led the national popular vote with 49.55% of the ballots cast.
