Nevada in 1944

The 1944 contest saw Nevada line up behind Roosevelt, delivering 3 electoral votes to the Democratic ticket. Nevada ended up on the winning side — Franklin D. Roosevelt captured the White House that year.

It marked the 4th consecutive election in which Nevada backed the Democratic party, a streak reaching back to 1932. Nevada did not move alone — neighboring California, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, and Arizona broke the same way in 1944. Across the 41 presidential elections Nevada has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Republican party (21 times). The vote fell within the New Deal Coalition — FDR, civil rights, and the long Democratic majority.

In the national count, Franklin D. Roosevelt took 432 of the 531 electoral votes, against Thomas E. Dewey's 99. Franklin D. Roosevelt led the national popular vote with 53.39% of the ballots cast.
