In 1928, Delaware awarded its 3 electoral votes to Hoover of the Republican party. That placed Delaware with the eventual winner: Herbert Hoover went on to take the presidency, and Delaware was part of his column.

Delaware stayed in the Republican column for the 4th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1916. Delaware did not move alone — neighboring Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey broke the same way in 1928. Over its 60 recorded presidential cycles, Delaware has backed the Democratic party more than any other — 23 times in all. The vote fell within the Roaring Twenties — Republican dominance to the Great Depression.
