In 1892, Pennsylvania awarded its 32 electoral votes to Harrison of the Republican party. The presidency went elsewhere: Grover Cleveland (Democratic) won nationally, while Pennsylvania had backed a different ticket.

Pennsylvania stayed in the Republican column for the 9th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1860. The region divided — Ohio joined Pennsylvania for the Republican ticket, while West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York did not.
