Pennsylvania in 1900

The 1900 contest saw Pennsylvania line up behind McKinley, delivering 32 electoral votes to the Republican ticket. That placed Pennsylvania with the eventual winner: William McKinley went on to take the presidency, and Pennsylvania was part of his column.

Pennsylvania stayed in the Republican column for the 11th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1860. The region divided — Ohio, West Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York joined Pennsylvania for the Republican ticket, while Maryland did not. Over its 60 recorded presidential cycles, Pennsylvania has backed the Republican party more than any other — 26 times in all. The vote fell within the Progressive Era — Trust-busting, suffrage, and World War I.

Nationally, William McKinley finished with 292 of the 447 electoral votes to William Jennings Bryan's 155. William McKinley led the national popular vote with 51.64% of the ballots cast.
