1904
What happened in Pennsylvania, 1904
In 1904, Pennsylvania awarded its 34 electoral votes to Roosevelt of the Republican party. That placed Pennsylvania with the eventual winner: Theodore Roosevelt went on to take the presidency, and Pennsylvania was part of his column.
Pennsylvania stayed in the Republican column for the 12th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1860. The region divided — Ohio, West Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York joined Pennsylvania for the Republican ticket, while Maryland did not. Over its 60 recorded presidential cycles, Pennsylvania has backed the Republican party more than any other — 26 times in all. The vote fell within the Progressive Era — Trust-busting, suffrage, and World War I.
Nationally, Theodore Roosevelt finished with 336 of the 476 electoral votes to Alton B. Parker's 140. Theodore Roosevelt led the national popular vote with 56.42% of the ballots cast.
