Lesson plan.
Grover Cleveland vs Benjamin Harrison — Grover Cleveland made a historic comeback to defeat incumbent Benjamin Harrison, becoming the only president to serve two non-consecutive terms (22nd and 24th). The Populist Party, representing agrarian interests and calling for free silver, ran James B. Weaver and won 22 electoral votes — an impressive showing for a new third party. The Homestead Strike's violent suppression hurt Harrison's image with labor. Cleveland's second term would be overshadowed by the severe Panic of 1893.
