In 2024, Ohio awarded its 17 electoral votes to Trump of the Republican party. That placed Ohio with the eventual winner: Donald Trump went on to take the presidency, and Ohio was part of his column.
Ohio stayed in the Republican column for the 3rd straight cycle, extending a run that began in 2016. Ohio did not move alone — neighboring Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania broke the same way in 2024. Over its 56 recorded presidential cycles, Ohio has backed the Republican party more than any other — 30 times in all. The vote fell within the Modern Polarization — Close elections in a divided country.
Nationally, Donald Trump finished with 312 of the 538 electoral votes to Kamala Harris's 226. Donald Trump led the national popular vote with 49.8% of the ballots cast.
