The 2004 contest saw Indiana line up behind Bush, delivering 11 electoral votes to the Republican ticket. That placed Indiana with the eventual winner: George W. Bush went on to take the presidency, and Indiana was part of his column.

Indiana stayed in the Republican column for the 10th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1968. The region divided — Kentucky and Ohio joined Indiana for the Republican ticket, while Illinois and Michigan did not.
