Texas in 1952

The 1952 contest saw Texas line up behind Eisenhower, delivering 24 electoral votes to the Republican ticket. That placed Texas with the eventual winner: Dwight D. Eisenhower went on to take the presidency, and Texas was part of his column.

The result flipped Texas away from the Democratic ticket it had backed in each of the previous 5 cycles. The region divided — New Mexico and Oklahoma joined Texas for the Republican ticket, while Arkansas and Louisiana did not. Over its 44 recorded presidential cycles, Texas has backed the Democratic party more than any other — 28 times in all. The vote fell within the New Deal Coalition — FDR, civil rights, and the long Democratic majority.

Nationally, Dwight D. Eisenhower finished with 442 of the 531 electoral votes to Adlai Stevenson II's 89. Dwight D. Eisenhower led the national popular vote with 55.18% of the ballots cast.
