Texas backed Truman (Democratic) in the 1948 presidential election, casting 23 electoral votes for the ticket. Texas ended up on the winning side — Harry S. Truman captured the White House that year.

It marked the 5th consecutive election in which Texas backed the Democratic party, a streak reaching back to 1932. The region divided — New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Arkansas joined Texas for the Democratic ticket, while Louisiana did not.
