The 2024 contest saw Washington line up behind Harris, delivering 12 electoral votes to the Democratic ticket. Nationally the result broke the other way — Donald Trump (Republican) won the presidency, leaving Washington among the states he did not carry.

It marked the 10th consecutive election in which Washington backed the Democratic party, a streak reaching back to 1988. The region divided — Oregon joined Washington for the Democratic ticket, while Idaho did not. Across the 34 presidential elections Washington has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Democratic party (19 times). The vote fell within the Modern Polarization — Close elections in a divided country.

In the national count, Donald Trump took 312 of the 538 electoral votes, against Kamala Harris's 226. Donald Trump led the national popular vote with 49.8% of the ballots cast.
