In 2024, Maryland awarded its 10 electoral votes to Harris of the Democratic party. The presidency went elsewhere: Donald Trump (Republican) won nationally, while Maryland had backed a different ticket.

Maryland stayed in the Democratic column for the 10th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1988. The region divided — Virginia, Delaware, and District of Columbia joined Maryland for the Democratic ticket, while West Virginia and Pennsylvania did not.
