2020
Maryland in 2020
The 2020 contest saw Maryland line up behind Biden, delivering 10 electoral votes to the Democratic ticket. That placed Maryland with the eventual winner: Joe Biden went on to take the presidency, and Maryland was part of his column.
Maryland stayed in the Democratic column for the 9th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1988. The region divided — Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and District of Columbia joined Maryland for the Democratic ticket, while West Virginia did not. Over its 60 recorded presidential cycles, Maryland has backed the Democratic party more than any other — 34 times in all. The vote fell within the Modern Polarization — Close elections in a divided country.
Nationally, Joe Biden finished with 306 of the 538 electoral votes to Donald Trump's 232. Joe Biden led the national popular vote with 51.31% of the ballots cast.
