In 2024, Colorado awarded its 10 electoral votes to Harris of the Democratic party. Nationally the result broke the other way — Donald Trump (Republican) won the presidency, leaving Colorado among the states he did not carry.

It marked the 5th consecutive election in which Colorado backed the Democratic party, a streak reaching back to 2008. The region divided — New Mexico joined Colorado for the Democratic ticket, while Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arizona, and Utah did not. Across the 37 presidential elections Colorado has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Republican party (19 times). The vote fell within the Modern Polarization — Close elections in a divided country.

In the national count, Donald Trump took 312 of the 538 electoral votes, against Kamala Harris's 226. Donald Trump led the national popular vote with 49.8% of the ballots cast.
