The 2020 contest saw Iowa line up behind Trump, delivering 6 electoral votes to the Republican ticket. Nationally the result broke the other way — Joe Biden (Democratic) won the presidency, leaving Iowa among the states he did not carry.

It marked the 2nd consecutive election in which Iowa backed the Republican party, a streak reaching back to 2016. The region divided — Missouri, Nebraska, and South Dakota joined Iowa for the Republican ticket, while Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois did not.
