Louisiana in 1952

The 1952 contest saw Louisiana line up behind Stevenson, delivering 10 electoral votes to the Democratic ticket. Nationally the result broke the other way — Dwight D. Eisenhower (Republican) won the presidency, leaving Louisiana among the states he did not carry.

The result flipped Louisiana away from the States' Rights Democratic it had supported in 1948. The region divided — Arkansas and Mississippi joined Louisiana for the Democratic ticket, while Texas did not. Across the 53 presidential elections Louisiana has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Democratic party (29 times). The vote fell within the New Deal Coalition — FDR, civil rights, and the long Democratic majority.

In the national count, Dwight D. Eisenhower took 442 of the 531 electoral votes, against Adlai Stevenson II's 89. Dwight D. Eisenhower led the national popular vote with 55.18% of the ballots cast.
