1952
Reading the 1952 result in Georgia
Georgia backed Stevenson (Democratic) in the 1952 presidential election, casting 12 electoral votes for the ticket. The presidency went elsewhere: Dwight D. Eisenhower (Republican) won nationally, while Georgia had backed a different ticket.
Georgia stayed in the Democratic column for the 22nd straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1868. The region divided — Alabama, North Carolina, and South Carolina joined Georgia for the Democratic ticket, while Florida and Tennessee did not. Over its 59 recorded presidential cycles, Georgia has backed the Democratic party more than any other — 34 times in all. The vote fell within the New Deal Coalition — FDR, civil rights, and the long Democratic majority.
Nationally, Dwight D. Eisenhower finished with 442 of the 531 electoral votes to Adlai Stevenson II's 89. Dwight D. Eisenhower led the national popular vote with 55.18% of the ballots cast.
