1928
Connecticut in 1928
The 1928 contest saw Connecticut line up behind Hoover, delivering 7 electoral votes to the Republican ticket. That placed Connecticut with the eventual winner: Herbert Hoover went on to take the presidency, and Connecticut was part of his column.
Connecticut stayed in the Republican column for the 4th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1916. The region divided — New York and Massachusetts joined Connecticut for the Republican ticket, while Rhode Island did not. Over its 60 recorded presidential cycles, Connecticut has backed the Democratic party more than any other — 24 times in all. The vote fell within the Roaring Twenties — Republican dominance to the Great Depression.
Nationally, Herbert Hoover finished with 444 of the 531 electoral votes to Al Smith's 87. Herbert Hoover led the national popular vote with 58.21% of the ballots cast.
