Delaware in 1900

The 1900 contest saw Delaware line up behind McKinley, delivering 3 electoral votes to the Republican ticket. That placed Delaware with the eventual winner: William McKinley went on to take the presidency, and Delaware was part of his column.

Delaware stayed in the Republican column for the 2nd straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1896. The region divided — Pennsylvania and New Jersey joined Delaware for the Republican ticket, while Maryland did not. Over its 60 recorded presidential cycles, Delaware has backed the Democratic party more than any other — 23 times in all. The vote fell within the Progressive Era — Trust-busting, suffrage, and World War I.

Nationally, William McKinley finished with 292 of the 447 electoral votes to William Jennings Bryan's 155. William McKinley led the national popular vote with 51.64% of the ballots cast.
