The 1892 contest saw Wyoming line up behind Harrison, delivering 3 electoral votes to the Republican ticket. Nationally the result broke the other way — Grover Cleveland (Democratic) won the presidency, leaving Wyoming among the states he did not carry.
1892 was the first presidential election in which Wyoming cast electoral votes. The region divided — South Dakota joined Wyoming for the Republican ticket, while Montana, Nebraska, Colorado, and Idaho did not. Across the 34 presidential elections Wyoming has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Republican party (24 times). The vote fell within the Gilded Age — Industrialization, narrow margins, and patronage politics.
In the national count, Grover Cleveland took 277 of the 444 electoral votes, against Benjamin Harrison's 145. Grover Cleveland led the national popular vote with 46.02% of the ballots cast.
