The 1864 contest saw Pennsylvania line up behind Lincoln, delivering 26 electoral votes to the Republican ticket. Pennsylvania ended up on the winning side — Abraham Lincoln captured the White House that year.

It marked the 2nd consecutive election in which Pennsylvania backed the Republican party, a streak reaching back to 1860. The region divided — Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, and New York joined Pennsylvania for the Republican ticket, while Delaware and New Jersey did not.
