Free data.
The state results behind this site, for every presidential election from 1789 to 2024, as plain CSV files you can open in a spreadsheet. Free to download, no sign-up.
What is in the file
7,578 rows covering 2,342 state-years: every time a state cast electoral votes. Each row is one candidate in one state in one election, with the electoral votes they received there. 1,887 state-years also have popular votes (6,987 rows), each with the id of its source. The other 455 have blank popular-vote fields, and the vote_status column says why (for example, no open source found yet, or electors chosen by the state legislature).
How each figure was produced and checked, and what has not been checked, is on the Methods and sources page.

Columns
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
year | Election year. |
state | Two-letter postal code (DC for the District of Columbia). |
state_name | Full name of the state. |
electoral_votes_total | Electoral votes the state cast in that election, counting blank ballots. Before 1804 each elector cast two votes for president, so this is twice the number of electors. |
candidate | Candidate name. "Other candidates" is one row holding every candidate the source lists who is not named separately, plus write-in, scattering and blank lines. |
party | Party code used on the site (for example Dem, Rep, Lib, Grn; OTH = other). Blank when the site's data does not record a party for that candidate in that state. |
popular_votes | Popular votes for the candidate in the state. Blank when the state has no sourced popular vote, or the source has no figure for that candidate. |
popular_pct | 100 × popular_votes ÷ the state's total vote from the same source, rounded to one decimal place. |
electoral_votes | Electoral votes the candidate received from the state, as actually cast: district splits, faithless and unpledged electors are counted where they went. |
vote_status | Why the popular-vote fields are filled or blank: sourced = Popular votes taken from the named source; not_sourced = State popular vote not yet sourced; legislature = Electors chosen by the state legislature, with no popular vote; no_popular_vote = No popular vote for president was held; no_data = State popular vote not yet sourced. |
source_id | Source of the popular-vote figure; full details in sources.csv. Blank when there is no popular-vote figure. |
note | Notes on the state-year (on its first row) or on that candidate's row. |
