Warren G. Harding vs James M. Cox — Republican Warren Harding won in one of the largest landslides in US history, running on a promise of a 'Return to Normalcy' after the turbulence of World War I and Wilson's failed League of Nations fight. Cox, Wilson's chosen successor, defended the League but the war-weary public overwhelmingly chose Harding's reassuring normalcy. Notably, this was the first presidential election in which women could vote nationally under the 19th Amendment. Harding died in office in 1923 amid emerging Teapot Dome scandal.
