Lesson plan.
James Monroe vs Rufus KingJames Monroe won in a near-landslide as the Federalist Party collapsed following its opposition to the War of 1812. Rufus King of New York made the last viable Federalist presidential run but carried only three New England states. Monroe's victory ushered in the 'Era of Good Feelings,' a period of relative partisan harmony. The Federalist Party effectively ceased to exist as a national force after this election.
