Maine backed Harris (Democratic) in the 2024 presidential election, casting 3 electoral votes for the ticket. Nationally the result broke the other way — Donald Trump (Republican) won the presidency, leaving Maine among the states he did not carry.
It marked the 9th consecutive election in which Maine backed the Democratic party, a streak reaching back to 1992. Maine did not move alone — neighboring New Hampshire broke the same way in 2024. Across the 52 presidential elections Maine has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Republican party (29 times). The vote fell within the Modern Polarization — Close elections in a divided country.
In the national count, Donald Trump took 312 of the 538 electoral votes, against Kamala Harris's 226. Donald Trump led the national popular vote with 49.8% of the ballots cast.
