2020
Massachusetts in 2020
The 2020 contest saw Massachusetts line up behind Biden, delivering 11 electoral votes to the Democratic ticket. Massachusetts ended up on the winning side — Joe Biden captured the White House that year.
It marked the 10th consecutive election in which Massachusetts backed the Democratic party, a streak reaching back to 1984. Massachusetts did not move alone — neighboring Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire broke the same way in 2020. Across the 60 presidential elections Massachusetts has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Democratic party (23 times). The vote fell within the Modern Polarization — Close elections in a divided country.
In the national count, Joe Biden took 306 of the 538 electoral votes, against Donald Trump's 232. Joe Biden led the national popular vote with 51.31% of the ballots cast.
