The 2020 contest saw Florida line up behind Trump, delivering 29 electoral votes to the Republican ticket. Nationally the result broke the other way — Joe Biden (Democratic) won the presidency, leaving Florida among the states he did not carry.

It marked the 2nd consecutive election in which Florida backed the Republican party, a streak reaching back to 2016. The region divided — Alabama joined Florida for the Republican ticket, while Georgia did not. Across the 45 presidential elections Florida has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Democratic party (28 times). The vote fell within the Modern Polarization — Close elections in a divided country.

In the national count, Joe Biden took 306 of the 538 electoral votes, against Donald Trump's 232. Joe Biden led the national popular vote with 51.31% of the ballots cast.
