In 2020, Alaska awarded its 3 electoral votes to Trump of the Republican party. Nationally the result broke the other way — Joe Biden (Democratic) won the presidency, leaving Alaska among the states he did not carry.
It marked the 14th consecutive election in which Alaska backed the Republican party, a streak reaching back to 1968. Across the 17 presidential elections Alaska has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Republican party (16 times). The vote fell within the Modern Polarization — Close elections in a divided country.
In the national count, Joe Biden took 306 of the 538 electoral votes, against Donald Trump's 232. Joe Biden led the national popular vote with 51.31% of the ballots cast.
