2020
Reading the 2020 result in Alabama
Alabama backed Trump (Republican) in the 2020 presidential election, casting 9 electoral votes for the ticket. The presidency went elsewhere: Joe Biden (Democratic) won nationally, while Alabama had backed a different ticket.
Alabama stayed in the Republican column for the 7th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1996. The region divided — Mississippi, Tennessee, and Florida joined Alabama for the Republican ticket, while Georgia did not. Over its 51 recorded presidential cycles, Alabama has backed the Democratic party more than any other — 30 times in all. The vote fell within the Modern Polarization — Close elections in a divided country.
Nationally, Joe Biden finished with 306 of the 538 electoral votes to Donald Trump's 232. Joe Biden led the national popular vote with 51.31% of the ballots cast.
