Georgia in 1992

The 1992 contest saw Georgia line up behind Clinton, delivering 13 electoral votes to the Democratic ticket. That placed Georgia with the eventual winner: Bill Clinton went on to take the presidency, and Georgia was part of his column.

The result flipped Georgia away from the Republican ticket it had backed in each of the previous 2 cycles. The region divided — Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, and North Carolina joined Georgia for the Democratic ticket, while South Carolina did not. Over its 59 recorded presidential cycles, Georgia has backed the Democratic party more than any other — 34 times in all. The vote fell within the Modern Polarization — Close elections in a divided country.

Nationally, Bill Clinton finished with 370 of the 538 electoral votes to George H. W. Bush's 168. Bill Clinton led the national popular vote with 43.01% of the ballots cast.
