1952
Michigan in 1952
The 1952 contest saw Michigan line up behind Eisenhower, delivering 20 electoral votes to the Republican ticket. That placed Michigan with the eventual winner: Dwight D. Eisenhower went on to take the presidency, and Michigan was part of his column.
Michigan stayed in the Republican column for the 2nd straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1948. Michigan did not move alone — neighboring Indiana, Ohio, and Wisconsin broke the same way in 1952. Over its 51 recorded presidential cycles, Michigan has backed the Republican party more than any other — 28 times in all. The vote fell within the New Deal Coalition — FDR, civil rights, and the long Democratic majority.
Nationally, Dwight D. Eisenhower finished with 442 of the 531 electoral votes to Adlai Stevenson II's 89. Dwight D. Eisenhower led the national popular vote with 55.18% of the ballots cast.
