1952
What happened in Colorado, 1952
In 1952, Colorado awarded its 6 electoral votes to Eisenhower of the Republican party. That placed Colorado with the eventual winner: Dwight D. Eisenhower went on to take the presidency, and Colorado was part of his column.
The result flipped Colorado away from the Democratic ticket it had backed in each of the previous 5 cycles. Colorado did not move alone — neighboring Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah broke the same way in 1952. Over its 37 recorded presidential cycles, Colorado has backed the Republican party more than any other — 19 times in all. The vote fell within the New Deal Coalition — FDR, civil rights, and the long Democratic majority.
Nationally, Dwight D. Eisenhower finished with 442 of the 531 electoral votes to Adlai Stevenson II's 89. Dwight D. Eisenhower led the national popular vote with 55.18% of the ballots cast.
